Force closing apps in iOS 7 is not the complicated affair it would seem when you first try to do it. A couple of swipes is all it takes and you can free up memory for other apps to use.

  1. Double click the device home button.
  2. Swipe the screen with one finger to scroll to the app you want to force close.
  3. Put your finger to the screen on the app screenshot. Swipe the screenshot up out of the picture to close the app.

The control centre is a new feature which comes built-in to iOS 7. It allows you to quickly control brightness, volume, Wifi, Bluetooth, airplane mode and orientation. You also have access to a few icons to quickly start utility apps such as Flashlight, Camera, Calculator and Clock. To access the control centre, simply swipe up from the bottom of your screen to the centre.

In previous versions of iOS you had to swipe to the left of the main screen to access the search function. Now you do not have to swipe all the way to the let crossing possibly many screens. Simply swipe from the centre of the screen to the bottom to pull down the search feature.

A new accessibility feature included in iOS 7 is the ability to adjust the display text sizes and properties.

  1. Tap the “Settings” icon in the main menu.
  2. Go to “General.”
  3. Select “Accessibility.”
  4. Tap and adjust the relevant settings including “Larger Type,” and “Bold Text.”

Another new feature of iOS 7 is the ability to automatically update your apps without having to do manually do it, every time an update is released.

  1. Tap the “Settings” icon in the main menu.
  2. Scroll down to and tap on “iTunes & App Store.”
  3. Toggle the “Updates” switch to green so that it is on. If you do not mind using cellular data to download app updates then you can toggle this function too to enable it.

Use iOS 7 App Wish List

If for any reason you would like an app but want to delay purchasing it, such as a sports event app or as a reward incentive for your kids then you can use the new App Store “Wish List” feature.

  1. Ensure you have a network connection. Tap the “App Store” icon to go to the app store.
  2. Use the search feature to find the app you want to add to the wish list.
  3. Open the app preview window.
  4. Tap the share icon in the top right-hand corner.
  5. Tap the “Add to Wish List” magic wand icon to add the app to your Wish List.
  6. Access your Wish List by tapping the icon with three lines next to the search field in the top right-hand corner of the App Store screen.

No longer do you have to use Instagram and other apps to apply filters to your photos taken using your device built-in cameras.

  1. Open the “Camera” app.
  2. Take a photo.
  3. Locate your photo in the photo stream by tapping the thumbnail.
  4. Tap the “Edit” button in the top right-hand corner of your photo preview
  5. Select the three ring “Filter” icon. Choose a filter for you photo.
  6. Tap the “Apply” button in the top right-hand corner of the screen. Tap “Done” to save the filtered photo.

A great new feature is the ability to block people who are pestering you from contacting your iOS device. This can be particularly good for stopping cold-call salespersons.

  1. Tap the “Settings” icon in the main menu.
  2. Scroll down to “Phone” and tap to enter.”
  3. Tap the “Add New” option to begint he process of blocking a contact.
  4. Alternatively go to “Recents” in your phone calls. Tap on the number you wish to block. Scroll down to “Block this caller.” Tap this option to block calls from this number.


Restrict Specific Apps to WiFi only

Some apps use a lot more data than other such as video streaming apps. In order to save limited data packages you might want to set these apps to use WiFi connections only and save your data.

  1. Tap the “Settings” icon in the main menu.
  2. Scroll down to “Cellular” and tap it to enter.
  3. Toggle which apps you want to limit cellular data for under the “Use Cellular Data for” heading.

To stop apps from running in the background and draining your iOS device battery you can initiate an ap block.

  1. Tap the “Settings” icon in the main menu.
  2. Go to “General.” Tap “Background App Refresh.”
  3. Toggle which apps you want to allow to run in the background.
