CSR Racing- Free Android/iOS Drag Racing Game Review
For those fans of “The Fast and the Furious” movie franchise or drag racing hot import cars in general then CSR Racing is the ideal game for you. The app is available for free on Android tablets and smartphones and the iPad and iPhone series from Apple. The game is fairly simple. All you have to do is drag race your car, winning to earn points to buy auto upgrades or higher spec replacement vehicles. You race against different gangs of rising difficulty in an attempt to become the King or Queen of drag racing in the city.
All-in-all this is really not a bad package. The drag racing theme means that there is no steering of the car to worry about, with the only controlling of the vehicle you need to do is the accelerator, gear changes and NOS injection. Credit is given on the timing of your starts and gear changes and you really can see the difference that a fraction of a second can make to your race time and subsequent result.
The graphics of the game are superb, with high detail actual replicas of famous car brands and a realistic track setting, as well as a garage where you can admire your car, purchase auto-part upgrades and change features such as the paint colour, decals and license plate. This brings me to the point about in-game purchases, which are pushed during the game, but it is quite possible to race and get through the game, buying hotter cars with earned points, without ever having to resort to in-app purchases. Obviously if you want to advance through stages quicker and get certain vehicles and upgrades then you must part with cash, but for those of us who are more thrifty, it is quite possible to play this game for free.
As well as racing against the computer opponents, you can also play the game against live opponents over the network and see how your custom car and skills rate against other human opponents and fans of the game. It would be nice to see a few more car models in the game but as a whole package the game is addictive, with the time incentives, such as special races each day, keep you coming back for more to win more races and stock your in-game garage with better vehicles.
- Great graphics
- Easy and addictive gameplay
- Play on networks against real opponents
- No in-game purchases needed to advance through the game
- Not enough car brands
- Only one track
CSR Racing really grew on me. At first I was disappointed that it was only really a drag racing more than a full-on driving game, but as I played more-and-more I became addicted to the winning of races and improving my car, as well as striving to get better and faster models. An initial test turned into many hours of enjoyable time-wasting. If you have a remote interest in race games and especially drag racing then do not hesitate in getting this free app.
